However only a few datasets are available from construction industry. The Duraark consortium is happy to change this  a bit.

DURAARK results presented in CAD-Q seminar http://duraark.eu/duraark-results-presented-in-cad-q-seminar/ http://duraark.eu/duraark-results-presented-in-cad-q-seminar/#respond Thu, 31 Mar 2016 15:12:43 +0000 http://duraark.eu/?p=1955

20160321_CadQ-s.pdf - Adobe Acrobat Pro DC

CADQ-Q provided a Point Cloud consisting of 344 scans, which was automatically transfomed into an BIM model using the DURAARK IFC reconstruction component within Rhino/Grasshopper.

CITA members presented today the results of DURAARK in the “Reality Capture” seminar organized by CAD-Q Scandinavia.
The seminar was co-organized by FARO and addressed stakeholders from facility- and infrastructure management. In focus was the state of the art in laserscanning and related modelling tools. These offer an increasing amount of automation, predominately for the positioning of single elements.

The DURAARK presentation highlighted the research question and provided the participants with a nice outlook into future highly automated processes for the generation and query of semantically rich building models. A massive point cloud provided by CAD-Q served as demo for the DURAARK components.

The paper introduces and discusses the approaches to the generation of BIM models from laser scan data. The outcome of this research is very promising and has been tested on an extensive set of Point Clouds, that were collected from stakeholders. Many of these are as well publicallyavailable on data.duraark.eu

DURAARK releases new version of VOLVOX Point Cloud Plugin for Rhino http://duraark.eu/duraark-releases-new-version-of-volvox-point-cloud-plugin-for-rhino/ http://duraark.eu/duraark-releases-new-version-of-volvox-point-cloud-plugin-for-rhino/#respond Mon, 22 Feb 2016 17:09:37 +0000 http://duraark.eu/?p=1902 Volvox Rhino Plugin The DURAARK partner CITA has released version 0.3.0.0 of the popular point cloud plugin VOLVOX for Rhino/Grasshopper. The highlight of this release is the full support of E57 format (im- and export).
Further new features in Volvox 0.3.0.0 :
–
Volvox is now distributted with an installer
– E57 Exporter – also within the Engine/EngineX
– Script Cloud component enables the user to write custom VB.NET code to process the point cloud
– E57 Metadata now outputs scanner positions
– Point cloud type now stores the scanner position as well (that’s useful with E57 files. Position follows the transformations of the point cloud
– Several reported bugs were killed

The plugin can be downloaded from here (food4Rhino)
Manuals, Forums and discussions are on here (Grasshopper3d)
and the source code for the plugin is finally available on the DURAARK github and for the .net E57 library as well here on Github

DURAARK at builingSMART day 2015 at the Danish Technological University – Impressions http://duraark.eu/1733-2/ http://duraark.eu/1733-2/#respond Tue, 15 Dec 2015 13:53:43 +0000 http://duraark.eu/?p=1733 Henrik Leander Evers and Per-Kristian Hansson from CITA presented the DURAARK project on the 26. November 2015 in the frame of the builingSMART day at the Danish Technological University . The event informed about the latest trends concerning Building Information Modelling, with a special focus on the needs of Building Owners, Architects and Engineers and Information exchange. A market place for ideas and discussions related to buildingSMART was the theme of the day, which was thoroughly discussed by all participants representing the entire knowledge chain of the building industry. The participants included developers, architects, engineers, contractors, manufacturers and personal from facility management.

The DURAARK team demonstrates, how the semantic web technologies, developed in DURAARK, allow to connect highly different building models, such as IFC and Point Cloud data. Visitors had as well the opportunity to check their internal organisation of building data in terms of longterm access, when they took part in a survey about sustainability in building data. Participants agreed, that thinking about long term access to BIM data is of immanent importanc
e for every stakeholder, that invests into these technology and processes.

Participants of the buildingSMART day showed a huge interest in the DURAARK project, especially about the latest advancements in the automatic generation of BIM files in the open IFC format from indoor Point Cloud scans. But there was as well a lot of interest in the archival strategies of DURAARK.

DURAARK thanks the organisers of this day –  especially Markus Lampe from DTU and Rikke Carlsen from bips.dk .

DURAARK workshop @ GeoBIM 2015 in Amsterdam http://duraark.eu/duraark-workshop-geobim-2015-in-amsterdam/ http://duraark.eu/duraark-workshop-geobim-2015-in-amsterdam/#respond Sat, 21 Nov 2015 17:59:36 +0000 http://duraark.eu/?p=1718 GeoBIM 2015 New logo

The increasing use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) challenges the way the building profession is handling the massive amount of building data. Technologies, which are used to access and retrieve information from the web, provide solutions to this problem. Especially semantic web approaches are of high interest here.
A workshop to these approaches and their benefit for building industry is given by a joint team from TU Eindhoven (Jacob Beetz & Thomas Krijnen), L3S Hannover (Stefan Dietze) and CITA Copenhagen (Martin Tamke and Henrik Leander Evers). The workshop ” Building Data and the Semantic Web” takes place n Friday the 11. December in the frame of the GeoBIM Europe conference in Amsterdam.

We are excited to organize this event and invite practitioners to partake in the GeoBIM conference – http://www.geo-bim.org/Europe/agenda.html#friday-2015
