DURAARK Presentation at 3DOR http://duraark.eu/duraark-presentation-at-3dor/ http://duraark.eu/duraark-presentation-at-3dor/#respond Fri, 23 May 2014 08:44:10 +0000 http://duraark.eu/?p=1065 At this year’s EUROGRAPHICS Workshop on 3D Object Retrieval, Sebastian Ochmann presented our paper Towards the extraction of Hierarchical Building Descriptions from 3D Indoor Scans. The new approach extends the possibilities to enrich 3D point clouds scans with additional structure and metadata which facilitates long-term digital preservation of scanned buildings. The talk was received with great interest and led to multiple interesting discussions with co-researchers from the field of computer graphics. The exchange of ideas added new insight and perspectives on this challenging problem which eventually might lead to new ways of tackling it. Slides are available here.

DURAARK at EUROGRAPHICS 3DOR http://duraark.eu/duraark-at-eurographics-3dor/ http://duraark.eu/duraark-at-eurographics-3dor/#respond Tue, 11 Feb 2014 21:09:16 +0000 http://duraark.eu/?p=841 DURAARK’s recent submission to the EUROGRAPHICS Workshop on 3D Object Retrieval got accepted for oral presentation. Building on our prior contribution which was presented at GRAPP 2014 last month, the new paper going by the title Towards the extraction of Hierarchical Building Descriptions from 3D Indoor Scans extends semantic enrichment of indoor point cloud scans from an isolated storey up to whole buildings as well as down to the interior of single rooms. The newly introduced methods will ensure increased searchability as well as re-usability of archived building data. The paper is available here, the presentation slides can be downloaded at this location.

DURAARK presentation at GRAPP 2014 http://duraark.eu/duraark-presentation-at-grapp-2014/ http://duraark.eu/duraark-presentation-at-grapp-2014/#respond Sun, 19 Jan 2014 20:23:01 +0000 http://duraark.eu/?p=786 Sebastian Ochmann recently presented DURAARK’s new contribution Automatic Generation of Structural Building Descriptions from 3D Point Cloud Scans at GRAPP 2014, the 8th International Conference on Computer Graphics Theory and Applications. The conference was attended by over 250 researchers from all over the world. Sebastian introduced a new and exciting method for semantic enrichment of indoor point cloud scans that ensures the long-term usability of archived 3D data. He received positive feedback from several co-researchers and was able to raise awareness for the DURAARK project. The presentation slides are available here. For the paper, check out this link.

DURAARK contribution accepted at GRAPP 2014 http://duraark.eu/duraark-contribution-accepted-at-grapp-2014/ http://duraark.eu/duraark-contribution-accepted-at-grapp-2014/#respond Tue, 29 Oct 2013 15:49:11 +0000 http://duraark.eu/?p=697 RCG-From-PointCloud-BlogOur recent submission Automatic Generation of Structural Building Descriptions from 3D Point Cloud Scans has been accepted for presentation at the upcoming 9th International Joint Conference on Computer Vision, Imaging and Computer Graphics Theory and Applications (GRAPP 2014). The paper introduces a new and exciting method for segmentation of unstructured 3D point cloud scans into higher-level semantic entities including rooms and stories. By that, room areas as well as the topology of a building can be efficiently approximated. Our approach represents another step towards a system that will enable efficient curation of 3D point cloud and BIM data in a long-term digital archive.

The paper is available here, and slides are available here.
